Glossary

App
A self-contained program or piece of software designed to fulfill a particular purpose, especially as 

downloaded to a mobile device.

Application
Application software is a set of computer programs designed to permit the user to perform a group of 

coordinated functions, tasks, or activities. Application software is dependent on system software to run.

Boot
To boot (as a verb; also "to boot up") a computer is to load an operating system into the computer's main memory or random access memory (RAM). Once the operating system is loaded it is ready for users to run applications.

Cloud 
Cloud storage is a means for storing data online, rather than on a hard drive, so that it can be accessed 

from any device. Examples of what can be stored are document files, photos, software, or music.

Hard Drive
A high-capacity, self-contained storage device that is in computers and other devices. It is also called 

hard disk drive. 

Links
Hyperlinks (or links) enable users easily to navigate their browsers to related resources.

Operating System
An operating system (OS) is system software that manages computer hardware and software resources 

and provides common services for computer programs. All computer programs, excluding firmware, 

require an operating system to function.

Search Engine
A program that searches for and identifies items in a database that correspond to keywords or characters specified by the user, used especially for finding particular internet sites.

Web Browser
A web browser (commonly referred to as a browser) is a software application for retrieving, presenting, 

and traversing information resources on the internet. The major web browsers are Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer/Microsoft Edge,[2][3][4] Opera, and Safari.

URL
Is an information resource that may be a web page, image, video or other piece of content.
